MVS East Sussex 1

The 17.5 metre steel training vessel East Sussex 1 is based at Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne.  It is the MVS's regional vessel but is maintained and usually operated by the East Sussex Sovereign Harbour Unit.

The former MOD Kiwi class vessel is used both for short evening training trips and longer voyages along the UK coast.  She has also made a number of highly successful training trips to France.

East Sussex 1 is fully certificated as an MCA workboat Code vessel and is licensed to carry up to 12 passengers.

Fitted with a Perkins diesel engine and a single screw, she has a service speed of eight knots.

Over the past few years she has been extensively refitted for the training role.  This has included the provision of eight bunks in the forward cabin and the installation of a second, high-performance radar.

Other equipment includes:

   Echo sounder
   VHF radio
   GPS
   Navtex
MVS East Sussex 2

East Sussex 2 is our RIB and a very useful craft at events and for training of unit members

As you can see from the above, we are very proud of our vessels for the service and support they enable us to give the local maritime community.

If you join us then you could soon be at the helm of one of the above craft whilst also learning valuable skills, meeting new friends and taking part in a useful spare time activity that puts something back into our community.
